Preakness 2025 live updates: Time, odds, how to watch, results

The 2025 Preakness Stakes will feature a field of nine horses competing on a dirt track at Pimlico Race Course for a distance of 1 3/16 miles, all vying for the prestigious Middle Jewel title.

The field will feature Bob Baffert trained Goal Oriented, that has only two starts in his career but was added to the field after Rodriguez was withdrawn due to a bruised foot that forced him to drop out of the Kentucky Derby and now the Preakness Stakes.

The field includes Journalism, who is the runner-up of the Kentucky Derby. Trained by Michael W. McCarthy, Journalism is the favorite heading into the second leg of the Triple Crown. Also in the field are two offspring of Triple Crown winners: American Promise, the son of Justify, and Clever Again, the son of American Pharoah.

Don’t miss a moment of the thrilling action from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Follow our live coverage to stay updated on all the twists and turns of the 2025 Preakness Stakes.

Is Sovereignty at the 2025 Preakness?

The Kentucky Derby winner trained by Bill Mott, Sovereignty, will not compete in the Preakness Stakes, disappointing hopes for a Triple Crown winner for the seventh consecutive year. The Triple Crown, consisting of the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes, is one of the most coveted titles in horse racing. Sovereignty’s victory over the favorite Journalism at Churchill Downs, with a time of 2:02.31, was a surprise. His withdrawal from the Preakness Stakes was an even bigger shock.

What is the 2025 Preakness Stakes purse?

The purse amount for the 150th annual Preakness Stakes has not yet been disclosed. Last year’s winner, Seize The Gray, received a Woodlawn Vase and $1.2 million from the total $2 million purse.
