Commanders CB Marshon Lattimore arrested for weapons allegations

Washington Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore was arrested suspicion of two weapons-related charges in Lakewood, Ohio on Jan. 7, according to 3News, a Cleveland-based local affiliate of NBC.

Lattimore, 29, is accused of carrying concealed weapons and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, 3News reported. Police told the outlet that Lattimore was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for expired plates and other alleged traffic violations.

He was arrested, police say, because he failed to inform the investigating officer that a firearm was in the vehicle when asked.

‘We have been made aware of the arrest and are gathering more information,’ the Commanders said in a statement to the NBC affiliate. ‘We are in communication with the NFL League Office and have no further comment at this time.’

The Cleveland native’s Jan. 7 arrest is his second on weapons charges in the last five years. In 2021, Cleveland police pulled over a car in which Lattimore was one of three passengers after ‘multiple traffic violations.’ The officers claimed Lattimore did not properly notify them that he was carrying a gun at the time of the traffic stop and later determined the gun had been stolen.

They arrested Lattimore on charges of failing to notify police that he was carrying a firearm and receiving stolen property. The then-Saints’ cornerback pleaded guilty to the former charge (a misdemeanor), while the latter charge (a fourth-degree felony) was dropped. Lattimore’s attorney, Marcus Sidoti, said his client was unaware the gun was stolen property.

Lattimore joined the Commanders midway through the 2024 season via a trade with the Saints. In November, he suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Washington’s Week 9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The Ohio State product was the No. 11 overall pick by New Orleans in the 2017 NFL Draft, won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award that season and has been named to the Pro Bowl four times in his nine-season carer.
