UConn football coach warns schools about ‘tampering with our players’

Connecticut football coach Jim Mora has issued a stern warning to other schools about tampering with his players, saying he won’t hesitate to ‘pursue all avenues to hold you accountable.’

Two days after capping off the season with a win in the Fenway Bowl, Mora took to social media, claiming that some schools have ‘blatantly broken @NCAAFootball rules by tampering with our players in the last 24 hours.’

Coincidentally, star defensive lineman Pryce Yates – who won defensive MVP honors in the 27-14 victory over North Carolina – later Monday reportedly reentered the transfer portal after starting the past three seasons for the Huskies.

Yates, a redshirt junior from San Antonio, initially entered the transfer portal on Dec. 13, but withdrew a week later with a social media post saying he would be returning to the Huskies next season.

‘We are excited that we’ve built a program where coaches have to cheat to beat us and we will protect that program,’ Mora warned in his post on X. ‘Think hard before you tamper with our players.’

Mora guided UConn to a 9-4 record, the school’s first winning season since 2010 and its highest win total since 2007.
