Texas Tech hits game-tying shot vs Arkansas in Sweet 16 following stoppage

The Texas Tech Red Raiders were storming back against Arkansas in the Sweet 16, but it was a stoppage that may have benefited them the most.

After a missed Razorbacks free throw, Texas Tech was getting ready to push the ball back up the floor with 30 seconds left down 72-69. However, officials stopped play as the clock wasn’t running properly after the Texas Tech rebound.

A lengthy official discussion ensued, and officials put 25 seconds on the clock for Texas Tech. It held the ball until there 10 seconds left, and Darrion Williams hit a game-tying 3-pointer to eventually send the game to overtime.

After Texas Tech hit the shot, there was another review to determine how much time should be on the clock, only furthering the sense of angst around the end of the game. Texas Tech would go on to win 85-83 in an insane overtime period to advance to the Elite Eight.

Social media reactions to official timeout in Texas Tech-Arkansas

While it’s easy to point fingers at the officials, the clock operator was the one who drew much of the ire for the debacle at the end of regulation between Texas Tech and Arkansas.
