Kevin Stefanski says Browns won’t yet make QB change

The Cleveland Browns are not considering making a quarterback change after starting the 2025 NFL season with an 0-2 record.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about potentially moving off Joe Flacco to give rookie backup Dillon Gabriel a chance to prove himself. His response?

‘No,’ Stefanski said, shifting the blame to the team as a whole. ‘I don’t think we did good enough.’

Questions about Flacco’s job security come after the 40-year-old veteran struggled in his team’s 41-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Flacco completed 25 of 45 passes for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception while posting a passer rating of 65.

By comparison, Gabriel, who played sparingly at the end of the game, completed all three of his passes for 20 yards and a touchdown. That was good for a 134 passer rating.

While Cleveland has lost both of its games to open the 2025 NFL season, the Browns offense has outgained its opponent in each contest. As long as the Browns can continue to do that, Stefanski may be content to stick with Flacco.

Either way, Flacco is trying not to worry about his job security and is staying focused on trying to operate at a high level.

‘It’s honestly not on my mind,’ Flacco said when asked about Stefanski’s comments. ‘I gotta go out there and just play my game, play the way I know how to lead this team the best I can.’
