Bad news for Lakers: Standout guard expected to miss a month

Austin Reaves is expected to miss multiple weeks for the Los Angeles Lakers due to a calf injury.

The team announced Friday that Reaves has a ‘grade 2 left gastrocnemius strain’ and is expected to be re-evaluated in a month.

He had 12 points in 15 minutes played for Los Angeles during its 119-96 loss to the Houston Rockets on Christmas Day. Reaves did not play in the second half.

Who is Austin Reaves’ backup?

The shooting guard is expected to be replaced by Marcus Smart in the starting lineup based on the projected depth chart for the Lakers.

Austin Reaves’ 2025-26 season stats

Reaves has averaged 26.6 points, 6.3 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game in 23 games played this season. His 26.6 points per game rank 11th in the league.
